Artist's Comments

Media: pen and watercolor, 2x2"
Storyline: The Skugga (set in a psuedo-Viking Age)

October 17th. [link]

I apologize but some of the descriptions for this story are going to be a lot briefer for various reasons. The black Hart is an old red deer buck that people catch sight of every now and then.

I'm pleased with the lighting in this, I was able to do most of the painting in the first two washes. I think I'm learning how to use my washes more efficiently, and it's pretty exciting to me!

The Light effect is wonderful and the colors bright, as always, but the antlers and the head don't work.

There is nothing so stable as change.

Thanks! I am aware that I drew whitetail-type antlers (and that they are thicker than normal antlers... a side-effect of the small format) instead of red deer ones, but if there's something else wrong you'll have to be a little more specific for me. Maybe it's a problem of perspective because of the silhouette loosing detail?
:icondianakennedy:
The points on the antlers are incorrectly forked and the head is too round and clumsy. Red deer (Stag) have a head that goes more into lenght.

But oherwise, great picture. I only said this because you draw on the highest level, so that more severe criticism standards can be useful

That helps! I really do appreciate the crit, though obviously I can't go back on this piece I did plan to paint the character again with more detail. It's good to know what to look out for, so thank you.

It's so small but so perfect. I'm not sure I could do that kind of detail at that size.
