I've been playing with this one on and off this week, so hopefully I'll start doing some more "serious" paintings soon. Not a whole lot of planning went into this, aside from me thinking "gee, I need a free form sort of composition so I can just play with my new paint," so despite the image being a direct frontal view of Cthulhu's face I wasn't really caring about symmetry at all. It's also the most colorful thing I've painted in a long time.
Also, the new tube watercolors make it really easy to use saturated washes in my work now. Perhaps everything will start looking a little brighter and more colorful now that I don't have to waste time mashing at the watercolor pan until the brush picks up enough pigment. Come to think of it, maybe my brushes will last a little better now, too, if the small amount of gouache that I use doesn't get them first.
OMG WOW what part of your brain did this come from?
I love it
Very nice

I like the tusk idea. Something I haven't thought of in my own pieces.

Those eyes are very realistic, there's some sort of glow in them. I also like those tentacles and the colour is just perfect. I can imagine Cthulhu swiming around in the ocian, bringing down boats used to catch wales for some reason.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
