watercolor and gouache, 11x7.5"

It's been too long! Reposting this from my blog post yesterday:

Happy New Year to everyone, belatedly! I managed to squeeze some time for personal work out of the time I was supposed to be sleeping; the result is the image above. I took some WIP photos as I went, so perhaps I can pull them together into something later.

One of the things I enjoy most about doing these skeleton character paintings is that I feel like I really get to play with color and stylized forms... I feel like I should try doing some paintings with more of the costumes/outfits showing.

Simply wonderful. Not only topic is interesting, but the colors - oh man. I love those earthly tones and the blue shades complete them very nicely. I don't have much experience with gouache - what parts of this are watercolour and what are gouache? This seems like a fine medium and you use it very well. Love the piece ;]

The gouache only comes in with the white trim and on the turquoise beads here. I have one tube of "permanent white" gouache and I mix it with my watercolor pigments to add opacity and still keep the color consistency of the pallet I get from those paints.
