I picked up a couple of different kinds of ink to play with, and I decided that maybe this would be a good time to play around with my old "dead" brushes and see how the texture could work out on a horror piece.
I really liked what was happening originally, but when I scanned it I noticed that the different inks and the white pencil I'd used to pull some of the highlights back out had a much different color than the base ink. Rather than convert it all to gray, I tried adjusting the hue/saturation and... voila. Color from what was scanned as a black and white with no digital painting. I kind of like it. Maybe a lot.
What I love about this is how the form of the reaper kind of mixes into the form of its horse. Very vivid and very gritty imagery. This would definitely be an image I could show my players in an RPG to help provoke a sense of dread and horror. Bravo.
