TegakiE

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 29, 2008, 4:18 PM
So I decided to try out tegaki... [link] woo, bandwagon! It's kinda hard for me since I'm used to building up color slowly, but I guess that makes it potentially a good learning experience. So of course, my first two "published" images (icon and post) are both in the safe, non-scary zone of monotone. I'll try something colorful with it later when my fingers stop cramping.

Anyone else have a tegaki?

Not dead yet!

I'm not dead yet, I swear!

Once I get my scanner working/replace it, there will be updates again. No promises on when that will be, but I might start doing a little more digital art in the meantime.

Thanks for watching, as always!

It's the eight random facts meme!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 29, 2007, 6:28 PM
Sorry I took so long, ~Lisi4ka! I just found the "tag" comment again. :(

Rules: Guidelines!

1. Post these rules in your journal so others know how it works.
2. Post 8 random facts about yourself in your dA journal.
3. At the end of your post, tag 8 more people to learn some random things about.
4. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them they're tagged. (I'm too lazy right now, sorry guys.)

1. I like tea. My current favorite is a fancy "Formosa Nut Oolong." It's fruity and nutty and doesn't have too much caffeine for my nerves. (Oolong tea is the stage in fermentation between green and black tea... I think.)

2. I currently make my living as a product designer for seasonal home decor.

3. I like to read. I usually read novels and those are usually fiction but I also enjoy short stories, comics, National Geographic magazines and *gasp* historic and scientific reference books.

4. Growing up I was the kind of kid who looked under rocks and brought the stuff that I found there back into the house.

5. I didn't know that I wanted to pursue art as a career until my sophomore year in high school. About that time a lot of other people started saying "I told you so."

6. I bake pies.

7. I am shy (if you hadn't noticed already ^^;). I also speak quietly and have difficulty raising my voice.

8. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons.

I've missed last week (which I define by Monday-to-Monday) in my "upload at least one piece a week" resolution. At least I'm still averaging more than the quota. In any case, there's a sketchdump in my livejournal to make up for it. [link] There are also two paintings in the works right now, and hopefully I'll finish one for tomorrow night.

(This paragraph would be a lot of me talking to myself.) Why have I had a hard time keeping up with my own deadline? I realized from the start that I wouldn't be able to keep it up all the time. It's a goal, something to set my sights on to help keep me motivated and producing portfolio material of the kind of stuff I want to do. However there are plenty of things I have to do that don't involve my personal work and sometimes they have to take precedence. Two of these were happy things; I turned 23 on Thursday and I bought a new computer this weeked. My first Mac! That's pretty exciting for me. I'm typing this journal from its keyboard right now.

Thank you and best wishes,

Sea Monsters

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 6, 2007, 9:06 AM
I've been painting more fan art lately than I have for most of my life. I painted Abe Sapien while I wait in anticipation for my copy of "The Troll Witch and Other Stories" to be delivered. I don't get the smaller issues of the comics, so I'm pretty eager to read up. People have been teasing me about what might happen in the comments! ;)

The painting I'm working on now is of another famous sea/space monster. His story was written back in the 1920's by a science fiction author who grew up in Providence, RI. Can anyone guess the monster and the man? I'll do a little character painting for the first person who gets both right. :D

EDIT: Well that was fast. The answer is Cthulu and HP Lovecraft.
